Class Title: Facilities Assistant

Salary: $21.69 - $32.53 Hourly

Job Summary

Under close supervision by the Facilities & Fleet Manager, an employee in this class performs a wide variety of routine and technical tasks and assists with non-routine projects as required. Work may be inside or outside with occasional exposure to risk and/or discomfort.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Provides multi-camera coverage of local government meetings. Responsible for the full range of control room operations, including adjusting camera shots and audio levels, creating and inserting appropriate graphics, and producing an overall product with both high quality and audio. 

  • Collects and disposes of all material in recycle bins. 

  • Performs a variety of custodial duties (e.g., cleans upholstered furniture). 

  • Provides back-up coverage in answering calls directed to the Help Desk. Troubleshoots system problems at the user-level and resolves problems over the telephone when possible. 

  • Assists technicians by setting up new computers, installing/changing various hardware, and physically moving equipment during staff moves.

  • Sorts and distributes incoming and outgoing mail. 

  • Prepares UPS and Federal Express Packages for pickup and delivery.

  • Distributes packages throughout the main campus.

  • Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begins and ends work on time. 

  • Performs other related duties as required or assigned.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Requires equivalency of high school graduation and completion of classes specifically related to software installation and troubleshooting. Incumbent shall provide a valid driver's license and a reliable means of transportation for the performance of work responsibilities.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S)

Preference given for on-the-job or formal post-secondary training specifically related to Microsoft Office application installation, personal computer (PC) evaluation and installation, data communications, and/or help desk/troubleshooting.

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS

The employee is under general guidance and direction from the Fleet & Facilities Manager. Employee performs duties on a routine basis with limited supervisory review.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Typical characteristics of the regular, ongoing work environment of this position requires inside work, typically in an office setting.

Physical activities include sedentary to light work: Reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, stooping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Lifts and/or navigates up to 50 pounds on a routine basis in handling files and equipment necessary for performing the essential duties of the job.

Selection for this position will be based on a minimum qualifications screening and rating of training and experience. Top candidates will be forwarded to hiring manager or supervisor for consideration for interview and/or additional assessments. Final selection will include a background check and approval by the County Board.
