Salary: $24.37 - $36.55 Hourly

"This position is responsible for a variety of technical procedures, basic cataloging, maintaining administrative records and files, and complex clerical procedures. Duties include carrying out acquisition procedures, bibliographic record editing, elementary cataloging, entering materials in automated databased, resolving problems in procedures, and assistance in file and record maintenance. Creates and manages the library’s safety program, including ergonomics. Works with Safety Programs Coordinator and collaborates as library liaison with the County Health and Safety team. Works with the Library Director and management team to address concerns for health and safety within the libraries. "

Job Description

Oversees the ordering, receiving, and processing of library materials. Verifies and maintains purchases orders against final invoices. Notes backorders, cancelations, and shortages, etc.

Ensures all materials are received as ordered and in good condition.

Resolves acquisition problems such as shortage claims, damaged materials, etc. directly with vendors.

Creates, manages, coordinates, implements, and monitors the library’s safety program, including creating and updating policies and procedures, training staff, and assessing workspaces within the county libraries.

Works with Safety Programs Coordinator and collaborates as library liaison with the County Health and Safety team.

Works with Library Director and management team to address concerns for health and safety within the libraries.

Responsible for processes and preparing materials for library use, including stamping with library insignia, packaging, labeling, and barcoding with library insignia of new materials as needed.

Responsible for the transfers of bibliographic records from various databases. Performs basic cataloging and editing of bibliographic records in local catalog.

Responsible for placing holds for customers on requested materials direct from the customer.

Responsible for processing all online library cards and educator library card applications ensuring customer has access to all library resources. Involves complex procedures regarding geographic boundaries, library card requirements for surrounding counties, cities, and states.

Creates and runs various administrative reports for staff and customer use.

Manages and maintains the weekly report and processing of overdue notices that assist in the return of library materials.  

Responsible for the additional of copies of library materials and magazines to appropriate library records.

Creates and delivers unique programs throughout county libraries that support the county’s mission.

Participates in job related teams, meetings, training sessions, and events as required; substitutes in various locations in response to emergency needs; provides work direction to volunteers that help in administration.  

Works the hours and/or shifts assigned and begins and ends work on time.  

Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires equivalency of high school diploma and two years of related experience. Preference given to applicants with previous library or customer service experience. The incumbent shall provide a reliable means of transportation for the performance of work responsibilities.

Supervisory Controls
The employee is under the general supervision of a Collection Development Manager. The employee exercises independent judgement in prioritizing and handling day-to-day issues.  The employee communicates and influences all levels of staff.  Work is checked through periodic reports and conferences, but frequently no check is made of routine work.

 Physical activities include sedentary to light work: Reaching, sitting, standing, walking, pushing, lifting, pulling, fingering, grasping, feeling, stooping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions. Lifts and/or navigates up to 35 pounds on a routine basis in handling files, materials, and equipment necessary for performing the essential duties of the job.
